Kitchen Cabinet Refacing: An Alternative To Replacement Doors

Kitchen cabinet refacing is done where you take your old, dull, and drab or possibly ruined, kitchen cabinets and put a new surface on them. This is usually done professionally, but there are the big do-it-your-self places that will guide you in doing this project yourself.

Kitchen cabinet refacing only works with the surface of the cabinets, and takes the entire surface off, which is usually the paint, tinting, or varnish or stain.  Then a new surface is placed on top of the unfinished surface that is left. This can also be a stain or paint. Resurfacing saves money when it comes to remodeling your kitchen.

If you want to begin brand new, but your budget can’t afford kitchen cabinet refacing or pricy new kitchen cabinets, unfinished kitchen cabinets are bare wood cabinets that you have to finish, whether that’s paint or stain, yourself. Many people on a budget opt for unfinished kitchen cabinets when remodeling their kitchens because they save a bundle of money over the already finished kitchen cabinets. Unfinished kitchen cabinets can be found at the local do-it-your-self store or lumber yard.

Painting kitchen cabinets is an economical way to restore your kitchens lackluster existence to a new, modern look. This is different than kitchen cabinet refacing because you don’t always have to take all the paint off. Sometimes you do take all the paint off and sand down to the wood, other times you can just paint right over the existing surface. There are several items you will need when painting your kitchen cabinets. Masking tape or painters tape to make sure you don’t paint on the ceilings or floors;  rags for cleaning spills; drop cloths for collecting spills; paint can opener; paint brushes, rollers and small sponges for corners. If you are removing the kitchen cabinets, then you need a screwdriver, if the cabinets are unfinished kitchen cabinets, don’t install them until you have them painted, and before painting them, you will need sandpaper to smooth out the rough spots.

One of the most economical ways to update your kitchen cabinets without kitchen cabinet refacing is to get new kitchen cabinet knobs. Unlike handles, knobs are round and pull towards you. Kitchen cabinet knobs can be matched to any décor and come in a variety of colors and styles, depending on your décor and taste, they even come in animal shapes, such as ducks or ladybugs.

If your budget can handle it, then go for custom kitchen cabinets. These are kitchen cabinets that are custom made especially for you and your kitchen. A remodeling contractor or builder will take the detentions or draw up some plans for your kitchen to customize the kitchen cabinets. Custom kitchen cabinets can have a dramatic effect on your entire kitchen. Custom kitchen cabinets are replacing the entire cabinet where kitchen cabinet refacing is keeping the cabinets and just redoing the surface.
